Question 1. SETTING:Places
Where does the classical play and the new version take place?
Example:
Verona vs Verona Beach . Where are they? The new version characters are in The United States of America. Which century? It was released in 1996. (20th century).
Question 2.. IMAGERY: metaphors & images:
WATER
swimming pool: Romeo fell on it to say 'Good bye' to Juliet when he was banished from Verona.
Beach: the place where Mercutio was murdered by Tybalt.
Aquarium: is the place where Romeo saw Juliet through and they felt in love.
FIRE
petrol station: the Capulets and the Montagues started to fight with their weapons.
Fights: there were fights between the two families.
DAY and NIGHT, the MOON. What do they mean?
Day: it means peace, harmony, poetry and love.
Night: it is relacionated with fire, it means fights, struggles, bad choices...
Question 3.. LANGUAGE. Which characters speak in verse and which in prose? All the characters sapeak in verse but the main characters speak more in verse than the others.
The narrator is the Tv news presenter and she speaks in prose.
Question 4. THE FANCY DRESS PARTY.What's the role of the costumes the characters wear? Romeo wears a knight costume because of the classic play, Juliet wears an angel costume because she's innocent and a good person.
Question 5. ELEMENTS. To make the new version, basic elements have been changed. Example: swords for gun, horses for cars,
Question 6. Other differences of the classical version and the film version
The castles are skyscrapers. Romeo bought the poison to a drug pusher. Romeo goes to Mantua and stays in a caravan.
